Mission 2 - Battle of the Hedgerows | Allied | Campaign Sudden Strike 4 Guide

Mission objectives:

1. Secure fields on the left flank
2. Secure fields on the right flank
3. Surround the city and eliminate all points of resist

The mission is divided into several stages. The first is to secure the left flank by using infantry only. You won't have any real problems if you can slowly move forward and use all available infantry units. Remember to keep your Medics and injured soldiers in the back. If you can, you should use anti-tank grenades. You must clear three fields next to a hedge (1).

Some of the enemy positions can be approached form behind thanks to modified Sherman tanks. You can destroy those hedges that don't have any vegetation.

Now, the next stage starts and you will get special Sherman tanks that can destroy hedges. This is very useful because the enemy has anti-tank guns in various places and reaching them is difficult. Send your scout to each of these places in order to discover a potential enemy position. You must clear two locations. A hidden cannon is placed on a road that leads to one of them, you can approach it from behind near the starting place (2). The first hedge on the right allows you to flank that position (you can destroy hedges without vegetation). The first of the appointed locations has an anti-aircraft gun but a Sherman can easily deal with it (3). You must destroy the hedge that leads to its position (although there is enough room for infantry).

It is worth to eliminate an artillery cannon first before you clear the appointed field. Thanks to that you can easily approach your enemies from behind by breaking through a hedge.

The second position has two anti-tank guns which can be approached from behind by also destroying a hedge but before that it is worth to destroy howitzers on a field in the north (4). A group of a few soldiers and an additional anti-tank gun defends that place. Send your soldiers from the west side and focus on eliminating the artillery. After that, you can take out an anti-tank gun. If a situations requires it you can use your tanks to eliminate infantry. Then, you can start clearing the field from the objective. Here, you can find a squad of 10-15 infantry soldiers and two cannons. The first one is next to a hedge (east from the field with grain) which can be destroyed from behind (5). The second is located behind a forest and thanks to that you can easily eliminate its crew by shooting from that forest.

You can gain control over a German heavy artillery cannons although it will cost you lives of a few soldiers. However, if you do that you will get a lot of fire support. If you aren't able to get them you should send an attack aircraft or destroy it with tanks. What matters is that the cannons won't be a hindrance to you when you want to clear the city.

After completing this part of the mission you get new reinforcements and air support. Go back on the main road and slowly head to the city. You can be attacked by small infantry squads but they won't be able to deal significant damage to your tanks. Your task is to take the city and destroy two artillery positions. You can send two attack aircrafts, each to a separate location, that will deal with the cannons (6). The position on the right can be easily accessed by sending your squads that can capture the cannon (7). Sending infantry may not be your best choice because the cannon deals a lot of damage to soldiers. It is best to send tanks that can easily destroy it. You can also perform another suicidal action: get your tanks as close as possible and have them cease fire. When you are close, your troops should exit the vehicles and attack the cannon. When you eliminate its crew you can enter the tanks again and defeat the remaining defenders. This allows you to get a cannon that can shoot at the entire city.

Send both bombers to destroy the forces in the city. Defeating a Tiger heavy tank, which is a difficult enemy, will be the hardest thing to do. Eliminate enemy infantry, this will allow you to surround the tank and deal damage to its weaker parts of the armor which are located on sides and back.

You can send two bombers to attack the city (8). The first one should bombard the area right before the city (an anti-aircraft gun and a tank between buildings) and the second bomber should attack areas a little bit further into the city, its right side. By doing that you eliminate a Panther tank and Wespe cannon. Now, you should slowly move your forces into the city. Behind it there are additional anti-aircraft cannons but the bombers should complete their task in time. The enemy reinforcement, in the form of a Tiger heavy tank, will be the biggest threat (9). However, at the same time you get your own reinforcement in the form of two Sherman Firefly tanks (10) which are armed with a heavy anti-tank cannon. They will appear in the west end of the map, on the road to the city. If you got rid of the cannons on the left then you can safely reach the city. Use those tanks wisely and try to attack the Tiger from two sides. Even though the cannons are powerful, they can't deal a lot of damage to the front of the enemy tank. When you eliminate it you can clear the city from other enemies.
