All established or conquered cities start with a trading post. If they are in the range of your capital's trading route they automatically have an established road to your capital. Your trading routes provide +1 to gold if they go through your cities.

In this case you must carefully plan your trading routes from your capital. Regardless of whether you create new cities or conquer already existing ones, a road will greatly reduces the time for your routes. If you get an already created road then you can also move your armies quicker between cities and a trading post lengthens a route by 15 tiles. This ability is very useful, especially because of trading posts that allow to get additional gold profit. To make a good use of this ability, quickly create new cities and remember to have their centers to be away from each other up to 15 tiles.

All cities start with additional building in the center.

Both abilities represent the strength of new cities that will be created under Trajan's rule. Depending on the Era in which your civilizations currently is, after creating a city you receive one random building for city center district. In the very beginning you get a monument but with the technology development you can get the access to more expensive buildings. The process is random but still very useful because allows you to save production points for other buildings and a city will offer bonuses right after its establishment. Depending on which building you get a city can have an easier and faster development or give you more profits.

Summary

A good nation for beginners and after getting familiar with the game mechanics allows to get the most of its assets and have a rather easy game. Rome is perfect for domination victory but, thanks to the abilities described above, can be used to achieve any of the victories. It is recommended to create new cities from the beginning of a game so each one of them can develop at the same pace and a free monument in each of them will improve their status and will reduce the time required for discovering new governments. Focus on trading routes so that they go through your cities but end in other player's ones. Remember that the distance between city centers shouldn't be bigger than 15 tiles, if you want to have trading routes between them. Each city, in the beginning, should be development in a different way and in the middle part even the differences in their infrastructure. If you are a new player then try to limit yourself in the beginning of the game to four cities. Thanks to that you will be able to have a good control over them.
