Nation description - French

Name - Civilization 6: France - Catherine de Medici, nation overview, tips - Nations - Sid Meiers Civilization VI Game Guide

Name

Effect

Grand Tour

+20% production towards Medieval, Renaissance and Industrial Eras wonders. Doubles the number of tourists thanks to wonders from any era.

Reduced costs for constructing wonders is very helpful but don't forget that this bonus is available only for wonders from particular eras which means that France's biggest potential, when it comes to that, can be utilized in the middle part of a game. Keep in mind that you won't be able to build all of the wonders because most of them have very high requirements when it comes to terrain and cities' structure. Of course, the number of wonders may be of minor importance because France's unique ability doubles the number of tourists that visit your territory. However, it is worth to build at least one wonder from each era, mainly because of the bonuses.

Name

Effect

Catherine's Flying Squadron

Has 1 level of diplomatic visibility greater than every civilization met during the game. After researching the Castles technology can train additional spy.

Remember this ability, especially when you are not playing as France and Catherine is in your scenario. This ability allows to check the diplomatic status of each of the players as if they were allies. This ability may not be as useful against computer players but in multiplayer it may become a very important skill. Additionally, France can train more spies which greatly affects the game. A spy can sabotage a cities' production or gather detailed information that can be used by an enemy. A spy can be discovered by our own unit of this type. Thanks to the additional unit you can do more damage to other player because they won't have enough units to remove all of the spies from their territory.

Summary

In France's case it is hard to point the ways of achieving victory that are the easiest. In general, playing as France requires more knowledge when it comes to game mechanics from a player when compared to other nations. Culture victory is easier to achieve thanks to an additional bonus that gives you gold and culture points but it requires to be constructed close to river bed. This means that its usefulness is dictated by the initial placement on the map. France's main force are spies - their proper usage dictates whether you win a scenario or not. You can also try to win by domination because you can sabotage enemy's production which will have an impact on their defence.
