Quest giver: Largo [#1] - The Clothes of a Pirate - Tacarigua - Quests - Risen 2: Dark Waters - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Quest giver: Largo [#1]

In the north part of Puerto Sacarico there is a not too tall tower in front of which you can find a man named Carter. The building is in fact a prison, and the man its guard. When you approach the solid wooden door, you can see a prisoner in a cell. His name is Largo [#1].

Talk to him and you'll learn that Carter has taken all of his clothes and put them up on sale. The Pirate's bandana was bought by the arrogant Riley [#2], and Worn-out shoes by a soldier who left them by his bed in the barracks [#3]. The prisoner is also missing a Leather shirt and an earring, Black pearl. As it turns out, the last one is still in Carter's possession. Use all the dialogue options available to make the pirate tell you how to recover the individual items.

Black pearl

Acquiring the earring won't be difficult, but certainly costly. In order to learn of Carter's [#1] weak spot, which will allow you to steal the Black pearl, you need to become a thief first, which means you need to learn the Pickpocketing skill.

The pleasure costs 1000 Gold and you need to have the second level of Cunning. The trainer isn't hard to find because Largo is a specialist in the thieving arts. Ask him to show you tricks on how to pick pockets, and when it's over, mention the earring. The pirate will tell you that Carter has a weakness for grog. If you give him the alcohol, the rest is a formality.

There is a small chance you don't have Grog on you, so you need to obtain it first. You can find one bottle in a chest right next to Carter; Osorio the cook also has a supply, but you'll have to pay for it. With the flask in hand, talk to the guard and offer him a drink. He will agree and a second later the earring will be yours. Easy as pie.

Note! Before returning the pearl to its owner, you can use it for other purposes. The earring permanently raises Cunning by 1 and it's valuable enough that O'Brian [#4] will agree to put in the pool during the drinking contest over the treasure map (see: O'Brian's Treasure Map). It will also help you convince Stone [#5] to give the lock pick for free - see: Freeing Largo.

You can steal Worn-out boots during the night. - The Clothes of a Pirate - Tacarigua - Quests - Risen 2: Dark Waters - Game Guide and Walkthrough
You can steal Worn-out boots during the night.

Worn-out boots

This is a very simple case because Worn-out boots are in one place only - the barracks [#3], situated right next to the governor's villa in Puerto Sacarico. The only problem may be an easy access to the building, as the sleeping room is constantly guarded by a sentry.

In a previous conversation, Largo [#1] suggested that it's best to go get the boots after sunset, and he was right. Quicken the time flow by sleeping in any bed until midnight, and head to Puerto Sacarico's main square. If you notice guards returning from their posts, wait until they disappear inside and go to sleep.

Switch to sneaking and start moving closer to the door, going from the villa's side. Keep close to the wall or you'll be seen by Osorio sitting on a bench. The entrance has to be clear - if the cook notices you, you'll have to repeat the whole operation. Once you're inside, move towards the only chest you see. The boots are right in front of it.

Pirate's bandana

Riley [#2] is the overseer of the sugar cane plantation north of Puerto Sacarico. The arrogant type should draw your attention for one reason - he's the one currently in possession of the Pirate's bandana, previously owned by Largo [#1].

The first conversation is crucial. The Nameless Hero will go straight to the point, mentioning the bandana. What you answer next determines the course of events:

  • If you back out of the conversation, the subject of the bandana won't be taken up again and you won't be able to go back to it!
  • If you insult him in any way (the second and third answer), Riley will attack you without warning. You'll have to defeat him, which isn't particularly difficult even for an unskilled fencer - what's more, you won't have to pay attention to his buddies, because they'll only stand and watch. When the buffoon is humiliated, wait until he gets up on his feet and talk to him. The bandana will be yours and you'll be 50 Glory points richer.
  • If you pass an influence check (Intimidate has to be at least 10) and don't yield to his arrogant response, Riley will give you the bandana without a fight. If, however, you come down a peg after threatening him, you'll provoke a fight.

If you failed the conversation at the very beginning, you can always try to take the bandana by force. Riley will have an allergic reaction to you talking to Asad [#2], one of the slaves. The guard will give you one and only warning, but a right dialogue line will allow you to proceed right to the fight. If you lose, you can provoke a rematch the same way - by trying to talk to the slave. Riley will stop paying attention to you only after he loses the bandana.

You can buy the Leather shirt from Carter. - The Clothes of a Pirate - Tacarigua - Quests - Risen 2: Dark Waters - Game Guide and Walkthrough
You can buy the Leather shirt from Carter.

Leather shirt

The fourth and last piece of the thief's clothing is his Leather shirt. You can simply buy it back from Carter [#1] for 150 Gold, but only if you know that the guard is selling clothes. In order to learn that information, you need to complete the Sturdy Clothes quest.

To sum up:

  • The order at which to obtain the items is optional. The quest will be completed when the last item is in your inventory.
  • It's not a bad idea to refrain from returning the items for a little while. Largo's belongings raise some skills by a few precious points, which isn't without meaning in the first stages of the game. The most valuable is the earring, which not only gives you an additional point to Cunning, but also helps complete other quests (see: Freeing Largo and O'Brian's Treasure Map).
  • If you'd like to return the items one at a time, Largo will refuse taking them. He will tell you that he wants all of them at once, and trigger The Clothes of a Pirate quest.

Rewards:

  • 200 Glory points for completing the quest;
  • 10 Glory points for stealing the Black pearl from Carter;
  • Black pearl after a successful theft;
  • Worn-out boots;
  • Pirate's bandana;
  • Leather shirt;
  • 50 Glory points for defeating Riley.
