Mission 1: On the Hunt | Walkthrough ReCore Guide

Last update: 18 October 2016

The game begins just after a short introductory animation, which doesn't reveal any plot elements, being only a preview for the character which role the player will assume throughout the game. The player can be tempted by the large swath of lands around him, but you shouldn't spend any time here, aside from learning the controls.

Road to the Cave

The controlled character is by default directed in the direction which she should travel - Mission 1: On the Hunt | Walkthrough - Walkthrough - ReCore Game Guide

The controlled character is by default directed in the direction which she should travel. The mission objective is marked by a green indicator.

By following the path marked by the cables lying on the snow, the player will reach the rock ledges. To climb them, you need to press space. To make a double jump, the player can press the button again while in the air, which will lead to lengthening the jump or a height increase.

After a few jumps and traversing few meters, the player will notice hovering, spherical robots - Scavenger Corebytes. They are harmless on their own, but they can send dangerous flying units - Floaters. You need to get rid of them right away, as they explode when they approach you. To do that, you have to hold the right mouse button, and then press the left mouse button. Our character, Joule, will aim at the enemy automatically, and holds the crosshairs on him.

Once the player defeats the enemies, he should continue his journey to the green indicator. As it quickly turns out, the bridges facilitating the further climb are destroyed, and you need to show some dexterity to reach the top. Fortunately, the distances between ledges are not great, and by using double jump, and sprint (Shift) you shouldn't have any major problems reaching your destination.

When you reach your destination, you'll see a closed gate with a large number of spider-like robots - Creepers. To unlock the gate, you need to eliminate all enemies, and then find a small Power Cellbot. He is hidden on the left from the door, between the crates. The crates themselves should be destroyed, as they can contain items that will become useful later.

Granite Steps Cave

When our new friend opens the gate, the player will be at the edge of a small abyss, to which you can jump without any scruples. After a dozen or so meters of the corridor, Joule will stand against a new obstacle - Security Lattice. To eliminate it, you need to aim at one of the weak points of the structure, and hold the middle mouse button until the weapon is charged in full. Once you release the button, a very powerful projectile will be fired that will tear the net, and unlock the way forward.

Moments after you get rid of the first obstacle, you'll be faced with another one - a closed door, unlocked for a short amount of time once you press the pressure-sensitive tile before them. The only way to make it before the door is shut is to sprint. To activate it, you need to press shift. Longer distances are covered when the player holds this button for a longer time.

The next obstacle is a destroyed bridge connecting both ends of an abyss. Fortunately, Joule can use her exoskeleton. To cover the distance, you need to make a double jump, and perform a sprint while in the air. It will push the character forward, allowing for making a longer jump than normally. IF the character falls, all you have to do is to return and get onto a ledge using double jump. Hint: The second jump doesn't have to be made instantly. You should make it when the character starts to fall, so the player covers a larger distance.

To unlock the gate, you need to hold the F button until the sphere on the wire reaches Joule - Mission 1: On the Hunt | Walkthrough - Walkthrough - ReCore Game Guide

To unlock the gate, you need to hold the F button until the sphere on the wire reaches Joule.

When the player has covered the abyss, he will be stopped by a closed gate. This time, there is no tile, so you have to solve the problem in a different way. To get through this obstacle, you need to aim at the gate (right mouse button), and press F. Joule will begin to open the gate using the extractor. Keep in mind that this is not an automatic process - to complete this action successfully, you need to hold the F button as long as the progress indicator (the sphere on the wire) will reach our character. For some tips for this mini-game, visit "Some Basic Tips" section.

Our companion is behind the door. You need to revive him by holding the R button by him. Few waves of new enemies - big, spider-like Spider Corebots will appear. Once you defeat the first wave, Joule's robot will unlock his battle ability, which is activated using E when locked on an enemy. The companion's attack is very powerful, and should be used often. Once you defeat all the waves, you'll discover that next gate also requires a Power Cellbot, which is missing again. This time, the robot has buried himself in the ground. Fortunately, such situations do not pose any difficulties for our companion.

By holding the R button outside of combat, our companion will start to look for targets along the designated area - Mission 1: On the Hunt | Walkthrough - Walkthrough - ReCore Game Guide

By holding the R button outside of combat, our companion will start to look for targets along the designated area.

The robot can be easily found using our companion's special ability. To use it, you need to hold the R button. This way, Mack will begin to search for interesting objects in the area set by circles. When he locates Power Cellbot, the robot needs to be led to the door, which then will be open.

Once you cross the corridor behind the gate, you'll stumble across a large, spherical robot, which releases our new enemies - Caterpillars. The flying enemies are not very hard to beat, but they consist of many elements, with every one of them has to be destroyed separately. You should always aim at one of the ends, as destroying any of the peripheral elements will disconnect one enemy into two smaller ones.

Once you defeat the enemy machines, you need to climb the rock ledges located on the left from the corridor that has led us to the room, and jump to the other side. There you can find some already known obstacles - a web and a door that is opened using the extractor - and a new enemy: Spider Corebot with a shield. To defeat him easily, you need to fire at him using the charged attack (middle mouse button)

You need to jump down behind the next door, and use the extractor on the designated target, so the cut-scene leading to a boss fight will begin.

BOSS: Iron Fang - Watcher of the Granite Steps

Iron Fang is only similar to Spider Corebot in appearance - Mission 1: On the Hunt | Walkthrough - Walkthrough - ReCore Game Guide

Iron Fang is only similar to Spider Corebot in appearance.

The Iron Fang encounter begins shortly after the end of the cut-scene. To win this fight, we need to utilize all the abilities that we have learned up to this point.

You should begin with charged shots. Mack's ability is very useful during this encounter, so don't hesitate ordering him to attack. The enemy will change colors during the fight, which currently is only a tip as to what type of attack to use.

Aside from a standard attack, Iron Fang has two special abilities:

  • A powerful laser beam that scans the whole battlefield from left to right. The boss uses this ability when he is blue. To avoid damage and immobilization, you need to jump over this beam, preferably with the double jump. But if the player gets hit, he needs to press the button very quickly to shake the incapacitated state.
  • A charge that burns the player, which is used when the boss is red. This ability is very dangerous, as it burns Joule when hit, taking continuous damage over time. The attack is easily dodged using sprint, which is also the only way to douse the character.

When the player lowers the Iron Fang's health to about 25%, he will stop taking damage, and starts to regenerate. The only way to defeat him now is to extract the core. To do that, you need to press the F button when the enemy is targeted, and hold the button until the indicator on the wire will reach the player. If the wire changes the color to red, release the button for a moment, to avoid breaking the wire. After a successful extraction, the boss will be defeated, and the player rewarded with another cut-scene.

Return to Base

Once you leave the cave, you'll see the snowy landscape of Far Eden. Our target is the vehicle named Crawler, marked with a green indicator.

Destroy the crates found along the way - Mission 1: On the Hunt | Walkthrough - Walkthrough - ReCore Game Guide

Destroy the crates found along the way! They may contain valuable resources.

To reach the target, you'll need to use the abilities acquired earlier during the mission. Once the player jumps over the first ledge, he will encounter a levitating object - these are the resources needed to upgrade your weapons later, so they should be acquired. You can also find various crates along the way that can contain similar items.

You should take the advantage of an open area during combat - Mission 1: On the Hunt | Walkthrough - Walkthrough - ReCore Game Guide

You should take the advantage of an open area during combat.

One more fight with Spider Corebots awaits us before we can reach our objective. This time, the encounter takes place in an open area. This allows for making dodges and movement training.

Once the fight is won, you should look around and gather the resources lying around. When we satisfy our curiosity, we should proceed in the direction of Crawler. Once we get onboard, the mission will end after the cut-scene.
