Your colony will grow very quickly if you acquire new technologies. You will increase your access to many objects, that will significantly affect the lives in your colony. From the beginning of the game you have access to two stations. The first has a fairly obvious name - the research station. It will use up small amounts of dirt, and after powering it up you can create one point of Novice Research. Build it near a storage compactor, in which you will only store dirt. This way the supplier will not have to travel long distances. The second object is the super computer. This station needs 25 kg of water in order to produce 1 Intermediary Research point. Storage of water without the proper technology can be problematic, so it is important to place this object close to a natural water tank. It is best to create a pleasant working environment at all research stations, by increasing the decor factor.

Once you unlock Advanced Research, the building tab receives two new buildings - Skill Board and Skill Scrubber. Skill Board enables us to assign ability points amassed by our duplicants to specializations which will help us grow our colony. Skill Scrubber enables us to retrieve all spent points, useful if we put points in wrong specializations, or want to change the profession of our duplicants. Unlocking Agriculture and Ranching leads to buildings such as Shearing Station, Grooming Station, and Farm Station. Shearing Station produces plastic from Dreckos' droppings. Grooming Station is a pre-requisite to creating a barn. Using Grooming Station, our rancher can handle animals, increasing their happiness so that they lay eggs. Farm Station has to be built in a room with planted seeds. This building produces Micronutrient Fertilizer, created by spending 5kg of Fertilizer. Micronutrient Fertilizer is used on our plants to increase the quality of the harvest. Using Micronutrient Fertilizer on one of the plants results in Farmer Touch, a buff that increases the plant growth speed by 100%. Bonus lasts one cycle.
