We can distinguish several types of competition:

1. Grip (Grip) - The most basic race (formerly known as circuit) where the only goal is to cross the finish line first - what goes on between start and finish doesn't matter at all. Most commonly played in two laps. Remarks:

  • If you use manual transmission, try to shift fears when the gear number blinks green - these are the optimum RPMs to shift into higher gear.
  • Always keep track of: the map, to know what lies ahead, how hard the next turn is;2) the roadsigns 3) the arrow hints at the top of the screen [#1].

2. Time Attack (Time Attack) - The goal is to get the best lap time compared to the opponents. The order at the finish line doesn't count, just who has the best lap time. Most commonly a three lap race. Remarks:

  • Use nitro during a single lap, during which you're to get the best time - it gives you the best effective use of engine power on a single lap, and consequently the best time. For example, use nitro on the straight line after the start or when you're finishing one lap and beginning another.
  • Remember that only one lap counts. To hell with the fact you fell off the road in the first one and are in last place. The key is to get at least one done better than any opponent.
  • In the upper-left corner there's a list of the best times. Your current time is in the upper-right corner. In the middle of the screen there is a timer for your current lap. [#2].

3. Grip Class - 8 cars on the track, but they're racing in two groups: better and worse. You must only overtake the cars from your group (it's highlighted under the cars). Most commonly done in 3 laps. Remarks:

  • If you take a weak car, you'll end up in the weak group, and vice versa.
  • If you're in the better group and start in the second wave, watch out. Even if you don't have to overtake the weaker cars, you'll still have to do it to outrun your equals.
  • Remember that your current position is highlighted in the upper-left corner. And remember that although there are cars in front of you, you can still be in the lead - the ones ahead of you are another class [#3].
  • Don't panic if something in the worse class overtakes you - check if it's not a car from the strong class.
  • Sector Shootout - the goal is to reach the checkpoints as fast as possible, collecting points. During transit, your point total falls - the sectors are displayed on the upper bar along with the competitor's point totals. The goal is to pass a sector faster than your opponent. The winner, of course, is the one with most points. Most commonly done in 3 laps.
  • Your current point total is in the upper-right corner. The current classification is in the upper-left corner. Keep track of the point totals and leads in each sector. Below that, there's a falling point total which you'll get for traversing a sector (unless your opponent was better)[#4].
  • If you were the best in all sectors you'll get a 500 point bonus.
  • You must get the lead as soon as possible. If you're on the second or third place and another player is better than you, your point total for that sector is lost.
  • The checkpoints are denoted with yellow dots one the map.
