A partly equipped hero. - Artifacts - Heroes of Might & Magic III: HD Edition - Game Guide and Walkthrough
A partly equipped hero.

There are literally hundreds of artifacts in the game. Those are items, which are equipped directly on the hero - they increase the heroes' stats, which influence the behavior of his units, as well as those commanded by the enemy he is facing on the battlefield.

Artifacts can be placed in the following slots:

  • Left Hand - this place is reserved for all kinds of shields, which, in general, increase the Defense attribute of the hero;
  • Right Hand - this place is reserved for all kinds of weapons, which, in general, increase the Attack attribute of the hero;
  • Torso - this place is reserved for armors, which increase the Power attribute of the hero;
  • Head - a place reserved for headgear, increasing the Knowledge attribute of the hero wielding it;
  • Feet, neck, hands, shoulders, other - artifacts belonging to any of those groups have a wide spectrum effect and can affect a whole number of different characteristics of the hero wielding them; such as increasing the ability, or the mobility of the hero and/or his army, or influencing various skills, such as Necromancy.

As can be seen, there's plenty of items to choose from, as there are numerous artifacts in the game, and everyone should find something for themselves. Of course, the effectiveness, or the power of the artifacts does not depend solely on their characteristics, but also on the type of the hero wielding it, or even the army the player is using. For instance:

  • Spirit of Oppression is extremely effective, if the player wielding it is using the army from the Necropolis (undead units), because all of those units are immune to the effects of the morale - why not prevent the enemy hero from having them too?
  • Orb of Vulnerability is deadly (for the enemy) if he has a good amount of Gold or Black Dragons - those units are so powerful because of their immunity to spells, which makes heroes who concentrate on magic struggle against them in combat. With this artifact this is no longer the case.

There are numerous examples of such influence on units - the choice of artifacts is truly unlimited.

In the following chapters you will find tables representing items from different groups (slots), coupled with their influence on the hero and/or his army.
