Assistants' duties | First steps in the club Football Manager 2016 Guide

Last update: 11 May 2016

As the manager, you can use the help of several people, at least, who you can assign with responsibility for individual elements of the game. It is a good idea to take advantage of this option, because the abundance of options may cause you to forger about something. Assistants usually do well in this respect, which lets you focus on the key elements. To change tasks of the assistants, access Staff -> Responsibilities. There, you find a list on which you can pick the person responsible for a given task.

Do not hesitate to cede responsibility to your assistants. - Assistants duties - First steps in the club - Football Manager 2016 - Game Guide and Walkthrough
Do not hesitate to cede responsibility to your assistants.

Depending on your preferences, you can either do everything, or restrain yourself to a bare minimum. It is a good idea to consider such issues as:

- staff recruitment - transferring this responsibility to someone else disallows you from picking candidates that match your needs. Also, you do not have control over contracts negotiated. On the other hand, you do not need to worry about the appropriate number of staff members.

- transfers - here, with no exceptions, you should leave all decisions concerning the base eleven in your hands. This way, you will avoid buying an unnecessary player, or selling one for unsatisfying amount.

- contract renewal - you need to be careful here. The upside is that is waiving the need of extending contracts on your own, if you allot this to one of your assistants. Downsides may surpass upsides, however: considerable raise in players' wages (you do not have control over negotiated contracts), or firing a player when the negotiating assistant does not reach a deal with that player. It is best to hold control over this aspect personally.

- training - if you do not want to worry about training settings, you can well leave this to an assistant. You lose control over training the skills that you want to train, but you can then be sure that you do not miss a training session and that you do not overdo.

- friendly matches - if you do not want to be bothered about selecting sparring partners, you can leave it to an assistant. However, if you want to earn money or get well-prepared for before the season starts, you should devote some time to that and do it yourself.

- team talks - in the majority of cases, assistants hold talks correctly, yet they are wrong sometimes. It is better to motivate players on your own and, in case of problems, ask an assistant to hold it.

Assigning tasks to appropriate people allows you to narrow down your competences. It is a good idea to assign your assistants with tasks, in some cases and deal yourself with the key ones that concern the base line-up.
