The team must do without Gladio, who set off on a lone journey. Meanwhile, Noctis, Prompto and Ignis depart to a mine in search of a valuable mithril ore. Only with the precious material the team will be able to repair the boat and travel to meet with Luna.
Party of Three
Recommended level: 26
Drive the car straight ahead until you reach an imperial blockade. Remember that Gladio won't be in the party, making the team weaker than before. The enemies you meet on the summit are all low-leveled - you shouldn't have any problems with them. After reaching the marker you have to turn left and head towards your destination. You should soon stumble upon several new types of enemies - Chickatrice, Mushussu and Basilisks. The enemies are vulnerable to lightning and ice magic, as well as daggers.
You will soon reach Ardyn who will bring you into the camp. Aranea will be standing there as well and you will be presented with two dialogue options:
- "Remain silent" -> Reward: 2 AP
- "Ask my friends" -> Reward: 1500 EXP for Ignis and Prompto
Once the conversation is over, approach the guard and purchase new equipment for the team: Ice Brand Sword and Ice Spear. Both of those will be useful. Afterwards, head through the entrance and into the dungeon.
Run straight ahead and explore every room. There will be new enemies awaiting you in the depths of the dungeon. Undead creatures - skeletons and reapers - will make up a majority of them. Those foes are extremely vulnerable to greatswords and fire magic. The weapons you've purchased before entering the dungeon are effective against them as well. You will also stumble upon a new type of flans, completely immune to magic. The location is quite linear. Also, don't worry about some of the corridors getting blocked by rubble - you can explore them later, after defeating the main enemy inside of this crypt.
Continue your travel into the depths of the dungeon. You should reach a room with multiple paths leading to the marker - some of the stone bridges will collapse under your feet, causing the party to fall down to a lower level. Once there, collect all of the items in the area and use the staircase to get back to the upper floor. Once you go through the "correct" bridge, an Iron Giant will appear, dropping your party to the lower level once again. The enemy is quite strong, although it lacks speed - exploit the enemy flaw to your advantage. Once the encounter is over, the bridge will be repaired - open the door, head upwards and continue towards the marker.
You will encounter numerous groups of enemies, with a new type of foe among them - a Lich. Those are powerful undead mages, vulnerable to sword attacks and ice magic. Once the encounter is over, head into the chamber with raw elements and prepare for an upcoming battle. Create powerful ice spells and give them to Noctis. Don't forget to visit the small room nearby - there's an Ascension Coin inside. Afterwards, head into the next area.
Boss fight - Quetzalcoatl
This beast can make things hard for you. First things first, avoid using lightning magic, as the enemy is completely immune to it (your attacks will heal it). On the other hand, Quetzalcoatl is vulnerable to ice - use the ice blade you've purchased before entering the dungeon and the magic you've just crafted. When the boss is flying above ground, focus on dodging its attacks and try not to attack it. Once on the ground again, you can use ice spells and melee attacks. However, you have to be careful and run away from the foe when electrical discharges appear around the beast - after a few seconds a powerful electrical discharge will erupt from the boss. If you don't want to take damage from this attack, you have to be relatively far away from it. Try to use Aranea's Highwind ability - it can hurt the boss quite a bit. Once the encounter is over, pick up mithril ore. Afterwards, get back to the entrance of the dungeon, speak with the woman and agree to her offer, ending the chapter.
