Harvest (Beelzebufo boss) | Side quests - The Gas Station Dying Light: The Following Guide

Last update: 11 May 2016

How to unlock: Read the notice on Gas Station.

Difficulty level: very hard

Rewards: 10000 experience points, 100 Trust points, blueprint (Hot Swing)

This is a unique quest, because it is entirely about fighting the Freak of Nature, i.e. an exceptionally strong monster that functions as a boss. Defeating him is not an easy task and, as a result, it is a good idea to get properly prepared. These are the most important things to do:

  • Try to upgrade all of Crane's basic skills, thanks to which he will not tire that much during the fight and he will be able to use more advanced moves.
  • Unlock at least several levels of Legend, connected with The Following expansion. Depending on how you are going to deal with the boss, you can develop, e.g. Two-Handed Weapons (damage dealt by double-handed weapons), Firearms (damage dealt by firearms), Bow (damage dealt by bow) or Throwing (damage dealt by throwing weapons).
  • Match Crane's equipment with the planned course of the fight (see below for details - there are many ways to weaken the monster). Therefore, you should get a high-quality melee weapon (preferably upgraded), or firearms; alternatively, you can craft or obtain as many throwing weapons as possible.

Beelzebufo is on a small farm

You fight against the boss on a small farm and you can enter there, e.g. by jumping over the gate. The monster that you need to kill is Beelzebufo. This one is a (much) stronger variation of toad and just to remind you, these monsters attack their targets by spitting acid. To keep your character alive, you need to dodge to the sides and backwards, or hide behind the available covers, whenever the monster is about to attack.

Note - apart from the main monster, you also need to keep in mind that sounds of the fight may also attract bolters. If you stand in a spot where they cannot reach you, you can ignore them for the majority of the fight. Otherwise, you should keep an eye on the mini-map and attack them as soon as they come close.

You can attack the boss either from one of the rooftops or the other side of the gate - Harvest (Beelzebufo boss) | Side quests - The Gas Station - The Gas Station | Side Quests - Dying Light: The Following Game Guide

It has already been mentioned that you can fight the boss in any way you like and you do not need to utilize one specific tactic. If you want to fight over the distance, use firearms, bow, crossbow or throwing weapons. If possible, use the best available variants of gear, i.e. ones with explosive properties, or ones that deal damage from elements. Thanks to using weapons of this type, you will be weakening Beelzebufo more efficiently. Regardless of the ranged weapon that you pick, attack while staying close to a good cover, behind which you can quickly hide in case that the boss spits acid your way.

Note - If you are going to use the shotgun against this boss, you cannot stand too far and you need to conduct fire at a medium distance. In such a situation, it is necessary for you to master your dodges to the sides.

Another way of defeating Beelzebufo is using melee weapons and it is a good idea to do this, if you have a high-class weapon (preferably one with upgrades). This is important because, unlike a regular toad, you do not kill the boss in one blow. Adopt tactic that consists in darting to the boss (he usually spots you at the last possible moment), landing one (two-handed) or several (one-handed) blows and escaping into the safety to use a first-aid kit to restore health. This is the most risky method of winning this fight, but one that provides the best chances of quick ending (on condition that you are actually using a good melee weapon).

Keep fighting Beelzebufo up until the moment, at which you deprive him of the entire health bar at the top of the screen. For defeating the boss, you will be rewarded with a unique blueprint (Hot Swing). To complete this quest, you need to eliminate all of the zombies on the farm and around it.
