A new skill tree - Driver Tree Skills | The Buggy - The Buggy - Dying Light: The Following Game Guide
A new skill tree

The Following introduces a completely new skill tree which is directly associated with your dune buggy. Driver skills can be unlocked analogically to skills in the main game. Performing actions associated with the skill tree will cumulate experience points, and thus grant the player skill points. You can gain experience points by running zombies over or performing jumps, for destroying elements of the surroundings and high-speed driving (over roads and off-road).

The most important Driver skills are:

Mechanic Lvl 1 - Lvl 5 - There are two main reasons why you should develop this skill. First of all, it provides you with new blueprints that you need to craft better car parts. Secondly, it grants you access to further skills from the Driver skill tree. Make sure to unlock level 1 and 2 as soon as possible.

Nitro - A very useful element of your dune buggy. Nitro can be used to throw running monsters, which can jump on your car during day or night, off your vehicle. Apart from that, you can also use nitro to move across the map or complete challenges and races with ease.

Reinforced Cage - Another useful device that increases your car's resistance and decreases the need for further repairs and replacing its main parts. Try to buy new levels of the reinforced cage as soon as they are available.

Ramming Bar - This modification will greatly increase your ability to eliminate zombies - not only will they die more easily but your vehicle will also lose less speed when hitting obstacles. Try to unlock the first level of this ability and invest in further upgrades when you gain enough experience.

Off-road Suspension - It is very helpful, and just like nitro it can increase the speed of travel. It may come in handy when you are exploring the world map or want to get a better score in one of the challenges. This modification will also improve your car's resistance against toxins and fire.

Electric Cage - It is a special variation of a cage which allows you to shock all the monsters in the surrounding area. It can be useful, especially when you were not successful in hitting them, when you encounter a large group of zombies or when you are being chased by monsters and a 180 degree spin is not an option.

After you unlock all of the main skills, you can also invest in one of the following devices:

Car Alarm - Once it is activated, it can attract all of the zombies from the surrounding area. This device becomes very effective after unlocking the Remote Control, which allows you to remotely control the alarm. It will make it easier for Crane to draw monsters away from locations that are essential to his missions.

Mine Dispenser - A device that allows to drop mines and is especially effective against charging enemies that want to catch up with you. However, the mine dispenser has some disadvantages. First of all, a mine can explode right after it was dropped and thus cause more harm than good (you should always maintain distance from the pursuers). Apart from that, you need to obtain or produce some mines before you can actually use them.

UV Headlights - The basic upgrade is not that helpful, as any night creature would have to get directly in front of the vehicle to be affected by the light. A more effective solution is provided by another upgrade, the UV Safe Zone, which creates a safe zone around the entire vehicle. It is wise to invest in this modification in the further part of the game when night driving becomes a regular thing.

Flamethrower - A flamethrower is an alternative way of dealing with zombies, and a very effective one indeed. The disadvantage is that you can only burn monsters that stand directly in front of the vehicle. You can purchase this device later on in the game but not before you obtain all the essential ones.
