The page contains the full walkthrough of GARM - a main quest from Deus Ex Mankind Divided. The walkthrough will instruct you how to sneak through hangars 1 and 2 of G.A.R.M. Facility, including how and where to use the ice drill to create a shortcut to hangar 2.

G.A.R.M. is the thirteenth main quest in the game and it's completely focused around going through the title facility located in Swiss Alps. This quest will be unlocked after completing the Confronting the Bomb-Maker main quest, or The Heist main quest (both of those quests exclude each other). It will appear in Jensen's journal after arriving at the G.A.R.M. facility.

Note - during this quest Jensen will stumble upon numerous soldiers with golden masks who are well armed and have access to advanced augmentations. Before you decide to head into G.A.R.M. you should also prepare your character properly - by equipping him with the best items and augmentations adapted to your preferred gameplay style (stealth-oriented or centered around open confrontations with enemies).

List of objectives

1. MANDATORY - Get inside the facility - This objective will be completed as soon as you open the first door leading into G.A.R.M. facility.

2. MANDATORY - Escape the facility - Jensen must reach the landing pad located on the 4th level of warehouse 2 (M24,8).

Getting inside the G.A.R.M. facility

The initial stage of this quest is very linear. Head towards the door visible in the distance and use hacking to open them (the lock is protected by a measly level 1 security). This action will lead to a long cut-scene with an unexpected meeting with Viktor Marchenko (500 points of experience).

After regaining control over your character you will end up in a new part of G.A.R.M. facility (M24,1). You can contact Vega or Miller in order to receive assistance in getting out of the facility, although this choice won't have a meaningful impact on the course of the quest.

Your final objective of this mission is to reach the landing pad for the helicopters (M24,8). You have to get through both warehouse 1 and 2 in order to achieve it. You can get inside warehouse 1 by reaching a balcony on the third floor, located near the quest starting location (M24,1). You can do that by reaching the top of a large scaffolding (ladder) and then by jumping across snowy ledges. If you have the Remote Hacking augment installed you can make this process a lot easier - you can hack the ladder located on the left side, allowing you to reach the destination almost immediately.

Another method to reach warehouse 1 is to depart straight ahead from the starting location. On the left side you will be able to see a large fan (M24,5). You can sabotage the device with any EMP explosive, or by exploring the right side of the area and locating a fuse box. The corridor behind the fan (a secret area - you will receive 100 experience points after entering it) will lead you to a ladder, allowing you to get to the third level of warehouse 1.

During your journey through warehouse 1 you must be on your guard, as the area is filled with enemies and most of them are soldiers in golden masks. Those foes are both excellently equipped and have access to advanced bodily augmentations, allowing them to move around the area quickly and use camouflage if needed.

Stealth action is advised, as well as using Smart Vision augmentation to locate enemies in the area. You can also jump between different covers, support yourself with camouflage and / or use ventilation shafts running below the floor (unfortunately the tunnel system does not reach the whole warehouse). You should be extra careful about enemies located on roofs and on high ground - most of them use sniper rifles. You can, of course, stun enemies (instead of killing them) and the best way to do it is to use a tranquilizer rifle from a high ground. If you prefer aggressive play style, try to use the best rifles you have access to, help yourself with grenades and use augmentations such as the Rhino Dermal Armor, Typhoon Explosive System and SEEP.

Your primary objective (at least at the moment) is to guarantee yourself a passageway into warehouse 2. The best method to achieve it is to use the huge ice drill hanging in warehouse 1, used to drill an ice tunnel into warehouse 2. The drill control panel can be found in a small room on level 3 (M24,2). The easiest way to reach it is from the corridor located behind the fan (the one you can sabotage at the beginning of this quest), but you can also get there from the direction of a larger, neighboring room (watch out for the surveillance camera located there - either hack it or sabotage with an EMP explosive).

Place the biocell in the lower slot to activate the mechanism. You must first relocate the drill into the correct place - this can be done with the help of four buttons located on the control panel (shown on the above screenshot). Press the left button (1 on the screenshot). This action will initiate a conversation with one of the facility workers, disturbed by the sudden start of the drill. If you want to prevent the alarm from sounding off, you must select an aggressive answer, associated with the upper dialogue option (Omega personality behavior if you use Social Enhancer augmentation).

You can now continue relocating the drill. Press the upper button (2 on the screenshot) twice and then press the right button (3 on the screenshot).

The drill must be located in a place as shown on the above screenshot. If you've relocated the device correctly, the red button located on top of the screen will become active. Pressing it will activate the drill. Wait for the device to drill a tunnel into warehouse 2 (you can observe the visualization of the process on the control panel).

The tunnel was drilled in the eastern part of the warehouse (M24,3) and reaching it might be quite problematic, as it's located on level 3. If you have Remote Hacking augmentation installed you can remain in the control panel room and look at the ceiling. You can use Remote Hacking to bring down a ladder, turn off the laser barriers and reach a small ledge on level 4. Afterwards, you can start walking through steel bars located under the ceiling and end the journey by jumping into a tunnel. The last action requires you to have the Icarus Landing augmentation installed.

If you can't hack objects remotely, you can reach the tunnel from the direction of level 1. Eliminate the enemies or let them leave the area, climb on top of one of the large, straight objects and jump in the direction of the tunnel. This can be helped with by using the Klipspringer Jump augmentation.

An alternative method of reaching warehouse 2 requires you to use the main corridor between both hangars (M24,4). After reaching the place - by either sneaking by enemies or getting rid of them - you can open the door (level 1 security).

Another way is to go through a tunnel going parallel to the corridor linking warehouse 1 and 2. The entrance to the tunnel can be found inside of a small storage room in the north-eastern corner of the warehouse 1 (M24,17). Before you enter it, however, you should interact with the fuse box to get rid of the electrical discharges. You must stop halfway and after exiting the tunnel you will end up in a corridor linking both warehouses. If you, however, have the Electromagnetic Pulse Shield augmentation installed, you can continue through the blue tunnel and it will lead the protagonist to one of the small rooms in warehouse 2.

In the above mentioned corridor linking both warehouses you will stumble upon four enemies. You can eliminate all of them (the best method to do it is to lure them away from each other), giving you access to a new security computer (it has level 4 security, but you can input NanoSpika password to bypass it), allowing you to turn off two cameras in warehouse 2.

The enemies can also be avoided. In order to do it you must jump from the main ledge onto the lower level. Going through this area is quite difficult because of laser barriers. Those can be deactivated with Remote Hacking, by using EMP explosives, or simply avoided by making use of ventilation shafts.

The exploration of warehouse 2 can be started on level 3 if you've come through the tunnel created by the huge drill, or on level 1 (in different places) if you've used the main corridor, or the blue tunnel running parallel to it.

Warehouse 2 is filled with even more enemies, although a large portion of them is located inside of buildings that you don't have to visit at all costs. Additionally, there are more cameras in the area and two active defensive turrets. Turrets can be deactivated by reaching security computers in two small buildings in the eastern part of warehouse 2 (one computer for each turret) (M24,22) (M24,23) - this will definitely make the journey through this area a lot easier.

The best way to avoid the dangers lurking in warehouse 2 is to get on top of the roof of a large tent located in the north-western section (M24,26). This will allow you to easily reach the northern parts of the warehouse. You can reach further parts of the facility by using two methods. The first option requires you to use the elevator (M24,5) - the switch to call the elevator is located behind one of the large chests. The second option is about reaching the staircase located in the north-eastern section of warehouse 2 (M24,6). The latter is more risky as you are more likely to be detected by enemies, by security camera installed at the stairs, or by one of the defensive turrets (assuming that you haven't deactivated it with the security computer).

Note - Before you leave hangar 2, you can try to acquire two quest items that can become useful in the further part of the game. The first item is Prototype Technical Diagram, located in a small room in the southern part of the hangar (M24,21). In order to take the diagram, you need to use camouflage or eliminate two guards in the room.

The second item is Marchenko's Kill Switch. It is very well hidden in the upper left corner of a big tent (M24,28). You have to reach the two shelves shown on the screenshot, jump on them and press the secret button behind one of them (if you are having trouble finding it, use Smart Vision). You'll unlock a hiding place in the locker, and you will be able to take the Kill Switch (it looks like a multitool)

Using the elevator or stairs in warehouse 2 will allow you to reach the rooms located in the northern part of level 3. Your main objective while in this area is to reach the second elevator (M24,7), which will take you to level 4 with the helicopter landing pad.

It won't be so easy, however, as enemies and a new camera will try to prevent you from doing so. If you have access to camouflage you can activate it as soon as you enter the area with enemies - use the fact that they are busy talking with each other and reach the area near the elevator as quickly as possible. Otherwise, you should try to lure them away from the camera's field of view and either incapacitate or kill them. The camera itself can be hacked, sabotaged or completely turned off from the small room located behind it (the computer is protected by level 2 security) (M24,29).

After entering the elevator and reaching level 4 of G.A.R.M. facility you only have to complete a short march towards the landing pad (M24,8). During the conversation with Chikane you must confirm that you want to get back to Prague. The quest will end as soon as you leave the G.A.R.M. facility.
