Various tips Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Guide

Last update: 25 August 2016

Preparing for the game

  • If it's your first contact with the Deus Ex series, choose the normal difficulty level. You won't have to worry about the encounters with enemies, and you will be able to handle it even if the quest doesn't go your way. If you had played Human Revolution, you can choose the hard difficulty level (Give me Deus Ex). It will offer a harder challenge, but won't cause frequent frustration thanks to the knowledge about the mechanics of the series.
  • Before you begin the game, think about your style of gameplay. For example, if you want to sneak your way through the whole game and avoid killing other people, try to act in such a way from the beginning. Avoid the enemies completely, or incapacitate them, and use stun weapons.

Exploration and completing tasks

  • Probably the most important piece of advice for beginners in exploring inaccessible locations is that you can use brute force if you don't feel like looking for secret entrances, using (not always properly developed) hacker skills or expensive Multi-tools! If being sneaky doesn't matter to you, then choose a weapon and destroy any door, ventilation grills or hatches obstructing your way. The rare exception are secret entrances (for example behind a wall) and large iron gates - objects on which you don't see the durability bar. Some iron bars can be destroyed, but you must use something stronger for that (for example a grenade).
  • The game rewards the player for checking every corner of the map. For discovering secret areas, you can receive 100-300 experience points. In many of those locations, you can also find valuable items, for example, large amounts of credits, palmtops with access codes or grenades. Discovering alternative passageways can be helpful during many stages, for example, when avoiding posts, which are closely guarded by the enemy. Smart vision upgrade is very useful when trying to find all the secret locations. The upgrade can highlight ventilation shafts or collectable items using different colors. If you want to avoid investing Praxis points in this augmentation (and its extras), enable "highlighting objects" (after approaching them) in game's options. It will reduce the possibility of missing important objects or devices.
  • If possible, complete all the discovered side missions. They offer the ability to gain valuable experience points and better equipment. At the same time, think about the decisions you have to make during these quests, because if you act improperly, you can, for example, lose the chance to complete the mission objectives, or provoke the person you're talking to to fight.
  • Do your best to always have at least one Multitool in your inventory. These objects can be, for example, created from parts (120 parts needed for one key). Multitools are useful right from the beginning of the game, because you can use them to break the protection on keyboards, terminals or computers, which can't be accessed in a normal way due to insufficient development of hacking skills.
  • Hacking minigames are not only a good way to reach closed areas, but also a way to earn money and develop your character. For each hacked computer or terminal you will receive 25-125 experience points with possible bonuses (for example for completing a minigame during your first attempt). By hacking databases during the minigame you can obtain additional credits, experience or free hacking software that you can use or sell.

Character progression

  • Don't worry about the fact that once you reach Prague for the first time, you won't be able to use Jensen's augmentations or install new ones through Praxis points and kits. To solve this problem, you need to complete the main quest "Return to shape", which involves meeting an augmentation specialist Vaclav Koller. Once you complete this quest, you will unlock access to a number of experimental augmentations.
  • As an aftermath of the "Return to shape" task, Jensen will receive only some of the augmentations he had before reaching Prague. Do your best to retrieve these enhancements, which help in reaching hard to reach areas (e.g. Rebreather to help with the poison gas). Other purchases should match the planned game style (e.g. buy augmentations connected to camouflage if you're planning to sneak often, or those connected to hacking if you want to use that ability frequently).
  • Check the Listings chapter in our guide. It contains a list of Praxis that you can freely collect in the game world. You should do it early in the game so that you can quickly start using the various abilities of the protagonist.

Warning - The comparison of augmentations and a list of recommendations can be found in a separate chapter of our guide.

Inventory and dealers

  • The protagonist's inventory has limits when it comes to the size and the maximal load. You can "fight" with these limitations by gaining special augmentations, but after all, it is good to get rid of the unnecessary items. These items should be sold to local merchants, so you'll receive extra credits in the process.
  • Each merchant in the game world sells specific types of items. Don't try to buy their goods at any price and ignore those items which can be found or created in the game world. Instead, try to accumulate credits for unique items, for example, weapons that are inaccessible anywhere else, or Praxis sets helpful in faster unlocking of additional upgrades.

Note - The list of merchants and their items can be found in a further part of the guide.
