Void Sword upgrade window.

Description

The first (of two) additional weapon that you will gain access soon after the beginning of the game. It can be described as:

  • Its attacks are the fastest from all the primary equipment - however, they won't do as much damage as Chaos Claws or even Shadow Whip.
  • Some of the skills you can use with Void Sword allows you to freeze (or drastically slow, in case of larger enemies) your foes, what will come in handy on numerous situations. A frozen target becomes susceptible to attacks of both Void Sword and Shadow Whip, even if the enemy is heavily armored.
  • Some of the skills you can use with Void Sword allows you to heal yourself by attacking the enemies.
  • It requires Void Magic to function, which is featured as a container in the bottom left corner of the screen. Void Magic can be regenerated by picking up Blood Orbs (see Combat Focus section for details), using Magic Fonts, or acquiring an unlimited amount (for a limited time) by using the Ensnared Demon Relic.
  • Void Sword has is a medium ranged weapon - shorter than Shadow Whip and longer than Chaos Claws.

Attacks, upgrades and recommended course of development

Unlike the Shadow Whip, unlocking skills connected with the Void Sword (and those with Chaos Claws) isn't so easy, because they are very expensive (especially some of them). Below you can find a list of those most effective, together with a short description (the list is arranged in the order in which you should buy them):

  • Combined Stab - a direct attack, the equivalent of Shadow Whip's Combined Whip. Likewise, it allows you to attack with a series of quick strikes, effective against small, mobile, weak-armored foes. Its one of the attacks that heals your wounds.
  • Combined Cut - an area attack, the equivalent of Shadow Whip's Combined Sweep. It differs from previously described attack (Combined Stab) - instead of attacking one foe, it allows you hit multiple enemies. Also, attacks from this skill heal your wounds.
  • Whirlwind - one of the most useful skills in the game. This skill allows you to literally "fly through" enemies, dealing quite a lot of damage. The best thing about it, however, is the fact, that when you hit enemies with it (especially when you hit them in a right way), it will heal huge amount of your health - to the point of getting a full health bar from almost an empty one! This skill is costly (both in experience required to unlock it and amount of Void Magic it consumes), but you should unlock it as soon as possible (the best time is after unlocking 9, eventually 11 recommended skills from Shadow Whip you can read about in the previous section).
  • Blizzard - extremely costly skill (it requires a lot of experience points and can empty your whole Void Magic bar in one use), but at the same time extremely useful. It allows you to deal damage for a few seconds, on a huge radius. After those few seconds, most of the enemies will be frozen solid, allowing you to freely attack them. The only flaw of this skill is that it doesn't heal you. Unlock this skill when you have unlocked all the recommended skills from Shadow Whip and Chaos Claws, and those above Blizzard, mentioned in this section.

Below you can find an optional list of skills (you can live without them, and given their huge cost, you can certainly find a more suitable way to spend some experience):

  • Rising Stab / Rising Cut - the equivalents of Shadow Whip's Rising Whip and Rising Sweep. They work on the same concept - they knock enemies up in the air - the difference is that they deal less damage, but they heal you.
  • Aerial Stab / Aerial Cut - again, the equivalents of Shadow Whip's Aerial Whip and Aerial Sweep. The concept is again the same - the difference is that they deal less damage and heal you.
  • Smashing Stab / Smashing Cut - the last equivalent skills of Shadow Whip (Guillotine and Smashing Sweep). Finishing attacks, which bring enemies down to the ground, damaging them and healing you in the process.
  • Vengeful Stab - an attack similar to that of Shadow Whip (Sustained Whip) and Chaos Claws (Furious Punch). It allows you to dish out a series of thrusts, healing your wounds, doing quite a lot of damage and going through enemy block (the last thrust). The only drawback of this skill is that it has a narrow attack range, which can lead you to a have a hard time hitting anyone.

The rest of the skills available to the Void Sword are far less effective, than the previously mentioned and even if any of them are good (like Void Shield) they are so expensive (Void Shield - 10,000 experience points!) and eat through your Void Magic reserve insanely fast. With the recommended skills mentioned in this section, you should more than prepared for what's coming.
