Defending the Pointe  (23/28)

TIME AND PLACE: June 6, 1944; Normandy

YOU ARE: Corporal Bill Taylor

This time you will have to defend Pointe du Hoc against a massive German counteroffensive. It’s one of the most challenging missions of the game. Bear in mind that you will be heavily outnumbered. Furthermore, the Germans will be coming from many different directions. You start off near the barricaded crossroads (screen 1). Keep shooting at the German soldiers. It would also be wise to use grenades from time to time. Don’t leave this post until you will receive some new orders from the current squad leader (screen 2).

After taking care of the first wave of enemy soldiers you will have to move to the western part of the blockade (screen 1). Keep shooting at the Germans. Remember to use all possible cover in order to avoid enemy attacks. A Tiger tank will arrive here shortly (screen 2). Wait for the other crew members to show up. They will decide what to do next.

You will have to retreat to the nearest field. Follow the rest of the team members (screen 1). Stand near the designated spot. You must defend this position against enemy attacks. Start shooting at the visible German soldiers (screen 2).

Some Germans will be trying to surprise you from one of the flanks. You must stop them at all costs. The first soldiers will appear on the right side of the field (screen 1). You will have to deal with several groups of enemy troops. After a couple of minutes the Nazis will try to attack from the left flank (screen 2). Remember to listen to what the Allied soldiers have to say. They will be trying to warn you.

You should receive some new orders in a few seconds. Move up to the nearest building (screen 1). Use the stairs in order to get to the first floor. You should notice a heavy machine gun post which you probably used in the previous mission. Start shooting at the nearby German soldiers (screen 2).

You should receive some new orders from the squad leader. Leave the machine gun post quickly, so you won’t be harmed by the enemy forces. Use the stairs to get back to the ground floor (screen 1). Warning! The area is swarming with German troops! You will have to start shooting at the attacking soldiers (screen 2). I would recommend advancing towards enemy positions at all times. You shouldn’t stay here too long.

You should be heading towards the huge field, the same one you were trying to clear out in the previous mission. It would also be wise to aid your team members in the following fights (screen 1). You should reach your current destination in just a few seconds (screen 2).

Turn around and start shooting at the German soldiers. Some of them will be hiding inside an enemy armored truck (screen 1). I would also recommend throwing a couple of grenades at them. You should notice a heavy machine gun post nearby. Use it (screen 2). Most of the Germans will appear near the buildings located on your right, although smaller groups may be coming from the opposite direction.

Keep firing at the German soldiers as long as possible. An enemy tank will arrive here shortly, the same one you’ve encountered near the blockade (screen 1). You will have to avoid its attacks at all costs. I would recommend crouching at all times. You should receive some new orders in a few seconds. Follow the other team members (screen 2).

Stand near one of the bigger guns (screen 1). Start shooting at the advancing Germans. You should receive a new information. Allied troops will arrive here in about 5 minutes and you will have to defend these positions until then. Start running towards the next point. I would recommend using the trenches for extra cover (screen 2). You will be taking care of the nearby enemy soldiers.

You’ve got to be extra careful. The Germans will probably use smoke grenades in a couple of seconds (screen 1). Killing them will be a lot harder from this point. Be sure to check your ammo supplies frequently. Most of the Germans will be coming through the trenches (screen 2). Nevertheless, you should stay on your guard.

You have to avoid an enemy tank. He will be closing on your position (screen 1). It would be wise to use ditches and bunkers for extra cover. You will be forced to retreat to one of the previous spots (screen 2). Follow the rest of your team members.

You have to watch out for enemy grenades. They will be thrown either at you or one of the current squad members (screen 1). The Germans will be coming from all directions. I would suggest concentrating your efforts on soldiers hiding in one of the surrounding bunkers (screen 2). You may not notice them at first glance. I’d also recommend throwing a couple of grenades there.

Even more smoke grenades will be deployed shortly (screen 1). Just as before, you have to be very cautious. You will probably have serious problems locating most of the enemy soldiers. Keep firing at the Germans. Some of them will be hiding in the nearby ditch (screen 2).

You will have to put up a smoke screen in a few seconds. That way the allied fighters will know you’re still holding to your positions. Otherwise, the whole area would be heavily bombarded. Head on to the roof of the nearest bunker (screen 1). Press the F key in a designated spot. A green smoke will appear (screen 2).

You’ve only got a couple more Germans to take care of (screen 1). You don’t have to worry about the ammunition anymore. Allied planes should arrive here shortly. The enemy forces will be destroyed (screen 2). Remember to keep a safe distance from the explosions!!

You might want to head on right into the open. Allied forces will arrive here in a few minutes (screen 1). After that, the mission is going to end. Congratulations! You’ve defeated the German forces!

On hardened this level wasn't such a difficult. Use the tunnels and trenches for cover and holding out for 5 minute is a piece of cake

I was stuck for so long on this level. On veteran mind you. Fun times. It's so frustrating when you can't beat a level.

RE:13 yeah, just did this lvl on vet (only difficulty played, only playing 1x, not a WWII fan). You can pick some guys off from the 2nd floor but it doesn't seem to help. Take the guy out in the doorway when you come downstairs, then the guy outside (off to the right), then lob a couple grenades forward and to the right (you have have to run through the town square). Actually if you stepped out the door and turned 90 dgrees to your left, you would then lob grenades forward and to your right, so if you're in the doorway lob them off to your left. The goal is to run around the left of the crumbling house with wagon in front and keep going forward, but people will chase you, more will burst out the front door of the house (you'll be coming from the back), and most annoyingly your teammates will jog right past with nary a shot fired and the germans will only shoot at you. Specifically you. Smoke is your friend, smoke and speed. When you manage to kill the guards coming from the door without the mob behind you taking off your head, run straight through the concrete arch town-gate thing, and veer LEFT. You'll prolly be seeing red and thumping, and tank with an exposed gunner will roll in from the right. You know the drill by now.

yo guys. so i'm here trying to bag this mission on veteran and i'm stuck. i mean like i'm going to have to start looking for some kind of invincibility cheat or something. does anyone have any strategic advice for this mission after you use the MG-42 for the checkpoint and the guy busts in the door? i've tried everything from sniping every newly spawned german for 30 mins, to running and gunning to the buildings across the street...only to be mowed down by what seems like a batallion of germans. i can't take much more of this. so yeah...anyone do this mission on veteran that can point me in some kind of direction as to not smash my controller in frustration? thanks bryan

I noticed that I died a lot more often in the easy mode...Veteran seemed easier (Only this little campaign to beat then I'm done on veteran mode lolz.) To 10. did you mean 90 rangers in history context???

I just started playing through the campaigns a couple of days ago, and having just finished the D-Day mission I can honestly say that this is the most intense game I have ever played. There has never been another game that I have needed to take a break from from time to time just so I could regain my composure....I just constantly think "agh, another battle! Gotta take a break for a minute so I can regain my focus...." This game is awesome!
