Engineer Class | General hints Battlefield 4 Guide

Last update: 11 May 2016

  • Try to be flexible and adjust to the situation in the battlefield. If it is dominated by the enemy vehicles of a given type, and your team cannot seem to handle them, equip an appropriate gadget and deal with it yourself. Not only will you make it easier for your team to complete their tasks, but also you will get a lot of points.
  • Engineer is scout helicopter pilot's, cargo helicopter pilot's and craft captain's best friend. As a passenger, he is capable of repairing them without actually leaving them.
  • Engineer is the best candidate for a driver (or a gunner, at least) of tanks, AA vehicles and APCs. In case of any fault, he can leave the area of danger and repair the vehicle quickly.
  • Do not ignore those of the vehicles of your team, which require repairs when you are around. Repairing a vehicle that attacks, or defends a checkpoint may increase your team's chances to complete a task.
  • If you are not a proponent of explosives (e.g. mines, rocket launchers), to destroy an enemy vehicle you can also use the Repair Tool or the EOD Bot. Using the robot is the least risky here, because it is capable of catching up with the heavier vehicles and does not attract attention.
  • Remember that, as an engineer, you can safely diffuse the enemy explosives. The only thing that you need to do is approach one and hold down the reload button. To be able to do that, you need to have a Repair Tool on you.
  • In the very same way, you can pick up your own mines, if you decide that they have been deployed incorrectly.
  • The EOD Bot can also be used to disarm enemy explosives. To do that, you need to use the Repair Tool mounted on the robot's shoulder.
  • The M2 SLAM anti-tank mines can be attached to any surface, even vertical one, thanks to which you can set traps for the enemy more effectively. Attach a mine to a wreck on the road or any other object, which you know the enemy often goes past, to prepare a sour surprise for him.
  • The M2 SLAM mines can also be attached directly to the enemy vehicles, which ensures their destruction. When the vehicle accelerates, the mine arms and goes off, which will surprise the driver completely.
  • The M2 SLAM can also be deployed in shallow water, thanks to which you can easily destroy boats and jet skis.
  • The FGM-172 SRAW rocket launcher is the most versatile and dangerous anti-tank weapon in your arsenal. Thanks to the wire-guidance, for as long as you remain in the targeting mode, you can use it for destroying both land vehicles and aircraft. What is even more, the driver or pilot of such machine dos not receive any notification of the incoming missile, up until the moment when it is too late.
  • If, equipped with SRAW, you encounter an immobile enemy vehicle, shoot one rocket up into the air, reload and shoot again, towards the vehicle. Both rockets will then reach the target, as long as it does not change positions.
  • FIM-92 Stinger can reach the target even if you exit the targeting mode. Still the SA-18 Igla needs to be guided at all times, by keeping the sight onto the vehicle.
  • Do not shoot guided missiles as soon as you see the target in the sights. Wait for several seconds - the cowardly drivers and pilots often discharge flares at the first sound of the notification about targeting by the enemy. If they do so, wait for the flares to burn out and then take a shot, and the enemy vehicle is sure to be immobilized.
  • If your rocket has been misguided by the enemy flares, start the process of targeting immediately and shoot another rocket, as soon as possible. With a bit of luck, the player controlling the vehicle will not be able to escape, and it is impossible to use the flares again, within such a narrow time window.
  • Ammo packs and ammo boxes left by the support soldiers (both ally and enemy) also replenish gadgets (rockets, mines, bots) but, this takes longer than replenishing ammo so, be patient.
  • Adjust the field upgrades to your gadget types. The "Engineer" upgrade speeds up the process of fixing vehicles considerably, and the "Anti-tank" increases the amount of explosives that you can carry.
  • There is a limit of fast repairs to vehicles, which is around 24 repairs (240 points). Also, the Repair Tool overheats, which additionally makes this process longer.
  • Carbines, which can be unlocked by the engineer, can be used by all classes.
